Catalogue of the exhibition organized by the Museo Casa de la Moneda or Spanish Mint Museum of Madrid in 2003. It has 96 pages, and it is written in Spanish, English and French.
Shows objects used as primitive forms of currency, objects of worship, and external signs indicating the social condition or stauts of the wearer. They come from the prolific area of the Rivers Niger and Benue.
Items made mainly of wood, bronze and ivory, that show astonishing artistic mastery and impresive creative richness, the result of the talent of their authors and the cultural heritage their ancestors.
This private collection has been gathered after many years of constant work in the selection of the acquisitions.
Some objects are related to the Orisas cult and the diverse ramifications of the traditional religion Yoruba, as the Ifa divination rites. Also it includes objects coming from Ijo or Ijaws, Ibibio, Urhobo, Ibo, Igala, Idoma, Tiv, Mumuye, Chamba, Boki and Nupe peoples.
